Bespoke Biomaterial Tiles Crafted From Discarded Oyster Shells.
OysterX – a biomaterial born of the sea.
Crafted from oyster shells once destined for landfill, collected from local restaurants and hospitality venues, OysterX is transformed into sculptural, high-performance bioceramics. Each tile holds a story of regeneration - honouring the quiet journey from waste to renewal.
Designed for circular living, OysterX tiles can be composted at the end of their life - returning gently to the earth from which they came.
Why Shells?
OysterX responds to three urgent problems:
1. Oyster Waste in the Seafood Industry:
Over 10,000 tonnes of oyster shells go to landfill in Australia every year - a valuable, underutilised resource with circular potential.
2. Environmental Impact of the Interiors & Tiling Industry:
Conventional tiles rely on virgin materials, toxic additives, and energy-intensive kilns in a linear, extractive system - driving emissions, resource depletion, and industrial waste.
3. Health Concerns in Indoor Spaces
Many commercial tiles contain toxic glazes, VOCs, and heavy metals, compromising air quality and contributing to long-term health risks.
Our Response:
OysterX is created with intention -
Regenerative, not extractive.
Healthy, non-toxic.

Our Impact:
Just 1 square metre of our tiles diverts 9kg of waste -
That’s over 243 oyster shells saved from landfill!
Where We’re At:
OysterX is currently in its R&D phase, focused on refining the formulation and developing a bio-based coating to enhance technical and commercial performance.
We’re simultaneously ready to collaborate - positioned for bespoke, conceptual installations and public-facing spatial works that tell stories of regeneration.
Where We’re Heading:
Product Sales - OysterX tiles sold by the m² to clients, architects, and interior designers.
Bespoke Projects - Brand activations, public installations, and immersive spatial experiences that merge material, story, and place.
