A biomaterial harnessing the power of mycelium—the root-like network of fungi—an incredibly regenerative resource abundant beneath our feet.

This project explores the future of materials that are grown, not made, shifting away from extractive practices to regenerative solutions. By cultivating mycelium with agricultural waste, we create a high-performance, biodegradable alternative to traditional materials.

Innovative Properties:

  • Lightweight – strong yet minimal in mass

  • High compression strength – withstands pressure and load

  • Fire-retardant – naturally resistant to flames

  • Exceptional thermal & acoustic insulation – regulates temperature and absorbs sound

End of Life:

  • Completely biodegradable & home compostable – breaks down naturally without waste

  • Regenerative – decomposes into nutrients that enrich soil ecosystems

  • A circular solution – designed to return to nature after use

Applications:

The versatility of Mycoform opens doors to diverse applications, including:

  • Furniture & homewares – sustainable design solutions

  • Sound panels & insulation – leveraging its acoustic properties

  • Fashion & accessories – exploring biodegradable alternatives to leather and foam

As a proof of concept, this material was used in a furniture design application: the Mycelium Meditation Seat, showcasing its potential for ergonomic, organic forms. Get in touch to explore the design process portfolio.
